See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Literally please please don’t interrupt people who have speech impediments to correct or rush them.

That includes not interrupting:

• Stuttering

• Really slow speech / lots of pauses or ums

• People who have difficulty being concise because thats really common for autism/adhd/other nd brains

• People with lisps/slurred speech due to a natural impediment

• People who repeat themselves without meaning to (another nd brain thing)

We KNOW that our speech isn’t typical, and a lot of us (though not speaking (yes that was a pun) for all of us) are pretty sensitive about it.

By interrupting you disrupt our train of thought, and in some cases we will literally forget everything about what we were going to say.

Also noah fence but if you interrupt to mock, laugh at, or get angry at us for our speech I hope you have a bad day and step on a lego.

So I was just sent this. Thought y’all might wanna take a looksie.

Yeah, it’s actually there at https://discordapp.com/terms

By uploading, distributing, transmitting or otherwise using Your Content with the Service, you grant to us a perpetual, nonexclusive, transferable, royalty-free, sublicensable, and worldwide license to use, host, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display Your Content in connection with operating and providing the Service.

propanenightmares

you…. you do realize they NEED these terms…… so that they can host images……. and let ppl see what you send……… right…………

samael

Incapable of holding all knowledge, I did not! I was hopeful someone might be clear it up but I was also hopeful that it was possible to be polite about such things. Can’t win all the time, I guess!

tyson-ot-nw

perpetual - So they don’t have to set up some sort of content expiration scheme.

nonexclusive - so you can post it elsewhere and potentially sell it.  If anyone asks for exclusive access be very very sure you are getting paid.

transferable - If they get bought by another company they don’t have to wipe all content.

royalty-free - They are not paying you to use their service to host your content

sublicensable - so they can have a 3rd party (like Amazon EC2) do the actual hosting, or provide another service with that content, like chat bots, giphy, etc.

worldwide license - They don’t have to geolock it

to use - Blanket right to use in their app

to host - Otherwise everything has to be externally linked

reproduce,  publish, translate, distribute, perform, and display - Every time someone views the content it is being reproduced because that is the nature of the web.

modify, adapt, create derivative works from  - Resize, transcode, change formatting, make thumbnails, etc.

in connection with operating and providing the Service. - Limits these abilities for the sole purposes of being used in the app.  Excludes their use in advertising, selling their own copy of stuff, or claiming any sort of ownership outside of the Discord app.

I hope that helps.  Legalese can be a little bit daunting but if you know what to look for, like nonexclusive and “ in connection with operating and providing the Service“ you can put your concerns to rest.

I went to the farmer’s market yesterday and at the honey guy’s booth and there were all these bees just hangin out.  Checking out the beeswax tabs, floating around the honey jars, not being aggressive, just really gentle and investigating or something

and as he was giving me a sample of the wildflower honey one of them landed on his hand and he just took a drop from the jar and dabbed it on his hand for the bee, and when I asked if they were his bees he said “No, but they show up every time I come out, I think they just know my truck” and this guy is well-known among the local bees and lets them sit on his hand and eat his honey and I just really like the bee guy

on the one hand there are many aspects of academia that should be criticized but on the other hand i’m concerned about the rise of anti-intellectualism as a tool of fascism

catastrophic-success

Hey yo what the fuck does this say in English? Because if you can’t explain in layman’s terms you’re not doing a good job of getting your point across to everyone.

124

hey man i think you might just be dumb

spirit-of-science

@124 you, personally, are one of the aspects of academia that needs to be criticized. Someone asks for an explanation, and your response is that they’re stupid for not understanding the first time? That’s cruel and unproductive.

@catastrofic-success this is saying that there are bad things about “academia” (the culture of formal learning, like colleges) but the OP sees that fascists are criticizing acadamia to make average people distrust academics. One example of how this could be used for fascism is rewriting history. If someone doesn’t trust people who study history, they might believe a Nazi who likes about history

“The Suffering Autistic”

There’s this idea that kids and adults with autism are suffering from some kind of debilitating disease, like a cancer eating away at them, causing them pain every second of the day. This is often the argument used by parents to try to get sympathy, or to act like they’re the biggest heroes on the planet. Here’s the thing.

Autism isn’t suffering. Sometimes it is, but so is life, you know? This is my issue: if an autistic person is constantly having meltdowns, crying, screaming, hurting themselves, it isn’t because of their autism: it’s the environment. Autism doesn’t make us feel pain from every single thing we experience. The pain comes from very specific environmental factors. But when autistic people are forced to endure these things by their parents or loved ones, THAT’S when the pain comes.

An autistic person doesn’t just HAVE A MELTDOWN. It isn’t a function of being autistic. It is a function of environment, of discomfort and frustration. I’m always wary of parents complaining about their autistic child, not just because they’re self centered and egotistical, but also because they’re likely the CAUSE of pain in their child. It isn’t hard to recognize the steps that lead up to a meltdown. Autistic people often Express themselves physically, and the physical signs are hard to miss. Its ignorance and embarrassment toward these signs that creates the pain.

You idiots: I’m sorry but I don’t think the american healthcare system is as bad as you’re making it out to be. You’re just trying to scam people.

The american healthcare system:

image
sillymillyme

Like, breaking bad wasn’t exaggerating, y'all. A lot of Americans turn to selling drugs, sex work, illegal activities, to get their meds or pay things like medical bills. America is fucked. We’re not being overdramatic.

wOAH. This got some NOTES

spirit-of-science

Between being BRCA1 positive and my strong family history, there’s an 85% chance I’ll get cancer in my lifetime, probably sometime in the next 10 years. I NEED a preventative mastectomy.

Good news! My insurance covers it! So it will only cost me $3,000 and 2 months of lost work (with no paid sick time)

And I’m one of the lucky ones! I have good insurance and the means to (probably!) save up enough money before it’s too late

TIL the book ‘Walden’ by Henry David Thoreau is often seen as a ‘bible’ for self-sufficiency enthusiasts. However, while many picture Thoreau as a hermit in the woods, his cabin on the lake was about a mile from town, where he would often go to visit his mother, who did his laundry for him.

this is every libertarian ever

thewinddrifter

Henry David Thoreau was a humanitarian and an abolitionist who was sent to prison for refusing to pay taxes, with his stated reasoning being that he did not want to fund the imperialist enterprises of a slave owning state and helped house and protect runaway slaves on their journey to the North. He wrote about rebelling against an unjust state and was an advocate for ecology and enviromentalism.

But yeah, no, he was just some silly ‘libertarian’ who couldn’t do his own laundry.

spirit-of-science

He was also a white supremacist who believed it was natural for white people to rule the continent

There’s no way you can say “I’m not bigoted against [group of people who experience bigotry based on inherited physical characteristics], I would just rather die than be one” and have the first clause be true. What makes us think that bc we have eating disorders we’re the exceptions to this? It’s not cute to say you love fat girls but would be disgusted/ashamed of your own fat body if you had one. This is in fact bigotry! Get the help you need to work on it!
